The
world cup stadium Stuttgart was built
1933 on a field called “Cannstatter Wasen”.
From 1949 on it was called “Neckarstadion”.
The first soccer international match after
the war between Germany and Switzerland
took place there.
In 1993 the world cup stadium
Stuttgart was renovated. It got its spectacular
steel-cable truss construction of the
membrane roof and a lightening unit. The
name of the stadium was changed into “Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadium”.
Gottlieb Daimler was a german automobile
constructor who founded a garage in Stuttgart
in the year 1882.Today near the area of
the stadium is the factory of DaimlerChrysler.
To
be fit for the soccer world cup 2006 in
Germany the stadium was renovated again
from 1999 to 2001. It gained a new business
center with 44 loges and 1,500 business
seats and many more. Further renovations
are in process.
